The Yellow Brick Road Casino in Chittenango will soon have a new neighbor as officials from the Oneida Nation announced today its plan to open a 17,000 square foot liquor store.
Const 7BALL CC ruction will begin in August on the Tin Woodman’s Flask, which will be situated between the casino and Tops supermarket in the Emerald City Plaza. The liquor store is slated to open for business in November and will, according to Oneida Nation officials, employ somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 full, and part-time workers, according to Syracuse.com.
The store will operate under a license from the New York State Liquor Authority, which was obtained by the Oneida Nation. In addition to wine and spirits, the liquor store will devote a section to products sourced from New York wineries and distilleries and feature a dedicated tasting area for product sampling. The new liquor store will also retail craft brands not normally sold by smaller retailers, according to the Nation.
The Tin Woodman’s Flask, which according to the Oneida Nation will be among Central New York’s largest, will charge sale tax and possesses no competitive advantage over the area’s other liquor stores.
Sales tax collected on the liquor sold will be retained by the Nation in accordance with a 2013 settlement agreement between the state, the Oneida Nation and Madison and Oneida counties. The tax revenue helps to maintain the Nation’s government services and programs like health care and housing, according to the news agency.
Prior to the casino’s June 2, 2015 opening, the space in the plaza was reportedly occupied by a liquor store.
Currently, the nearest liquor store is located in the village about two miles away on Genesee.
